Sunday June 8th 2008
10:00 am to 5:00 pm

Anamosa, Iowa

I realized that all the really good ideas I’d ever
had, came to me while milking a cow.
So I went back to Iowa.

Plans are currently underway for the 36th Annual Grant Wood Art Festival to be held Sunday, June 8th from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm with lots of local and regional artists showcasing their arts and crafts. This years festival looks to be even bigger and better than the last with lots to do for the whole family.

Grant Wood was born in February of 1892 in Anamosa, Iowa. During the summer of 1932, he established an art colony in Stone City, Iowa just 4 miles north of Anamosa. The aim of the original art colony was “to join in working together toward the development of an indigenous expression. To this end, we do not strive for any particular formula or technique. We rather seek for a stimulating exchange of ideas,
a cooperation of a variety of points of view.”

This is a celebration of his legacy and Iowan heritage.

Celebrate the history of Grant Wood and the area around Stone City at the
Grant Wood Art Festival, held annually in Anamosa, Iowa.
Explore the vision of this world-renowned artist, best known for his piece
"American Gothic", by visiting the
Grant Wood Art Gallery year-round.
